How it was made
This is how these maps were produced, with links to my sources of data, software and methods.

Raw Data

The raw data for these maps is from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (version 2) as collected from the Space Shuttle Endeavour over 11 days in February 2000. It has a resolution of 3 arc-sec (~90 m).

Software

The maps were created using:

Methods

Basically, as described here with some lessons/modifications:

I used the USGS Seamless website to obtain data (as opposed to downloading blocks from here). The downloaded .tif file from the seamless web-site does not seem to work directly with dem2topo so I had to 'Open' and 'Save' it with 3DEM as a GeoTIFF.

By trial and error, it seems that the maximum practical size of a Polish Map that can be compiled with cgpsmapper is about 140Mb (resulting in a .img file of about 16Mb in size). Files larger than that fail to compile. Executing cgpsmapper directly from the command line saves on precious RAM.
I compiled this maps with the intention to make maximum use of the resolution of the raw data (10m contours). It took days to weeks to compile on a dedicated computer.
